Established in 1992, the Western Jets were an inaugural member of the Victorian State Football League.
The development competition known as the Coates Talent League has produced the nations most AFL draftees.

The Jets partnership with Victoria University is the competitions longest running major partnership providing entry level opportunities for student placements in operations, coaching, analysis, fitness and medical fields.

To be eligible for invitation one must reside in the Western Jets zone and fit the age criteria
